I'm Karen Bommentre, LMFT, founder of Wild Gem Therapy and a somatic psychotherapist.
I work with deeply feeling, highly sensitive, and neurodivergent adults and teens who may be navigating anxiety, overwhelm, burnout, or the exhaustion of trying to meet expectations that don't quite fit.
I'm interested in understanding how you experience the world. Not just what's difficult right now, but how you've learned to navigate life, what those ways of coping have helped you get through, and whether they're still working for you.
I don't think therapy needs to be about fixing who you are. Sometimes it's about finally understanding yourself in a way you haven't been able to before.
Hi, I’m Karen.
What if the goal isn't to fit in, but to feel more at home in yourself?
I've never been particularly interested in helping people become more like everyone else.
I'm much more interested in understanding how someone actually experiences the world, and what they need to feel more comfortable, connected, and authentic within it.
For some people, that means making sense of years spent masking, overthinking, or trying to meet expectations that never quite fit. For others, it means paying closer attention to what their body has been telling them, or beginning to understand experiences they've carried for a long time.
Rather than asking, "How do we make you fit?" I'm more interested in asking, "What actually fits you?"
My Approach
I work from a somatic, trauma-informed, and neurodivergent-affirming perspective. I believe our experiences are shaped by more than our thoughts alone. Our bodies, nervous systems, relationships, and histories all play a part in how we move through the world.
That doesn't mean every session looks a certain way.
We might talk through something that's been weighing on you, notice what's happening in your body, explore a familiar pattern, or spend time with something you haven't quite had words for.
My approach is collaborative and responsive to the person in front of me. I draw on different therapeutic approaches, including somatic psychotherapy and EMDR when appropriate, while remaining attentive to your individual needs, preferences, and pace.
The goal isn't to follow a particular formula. It's to find an approach that makes sense for you.
What Informs My Work
I've spent more than a decade working clinically with children, adolescents, and adults, and I'm currently completing a PhD in Psychology with a specialization in Somatic Psychology.
I'm especially interested in the relationship between the mind, body, nervous system, and the experiences that shape how we understand ourselves.
My work draws on somatic psychology, neuroscience, trauma-informed care, and neurodivergent-affirming approaches. I also incorporate EMDR when it's appropriate for the person and what we're working on.
I'm certified in the Women-Centered ADHD Treatment (W-CAT) model, which focuses on the ways ADHD can show up in women's lives, including experiences that are often overlooked or misunderstood.
My training in Reiki has also influenced how I think about slowing down, paying attention, and our relationship with our bodies.
I value research, clinical experience, and continuing to learn. I also believe that no amount of training can tell me everything about the person sitting across from me.
Understanding what makes sense for you is part of the work we do together.
What It’s Like to Work With Me
My style is thoughtful, curious, and collaborative. I ask questions, notice patterns, and sometimes gently offer perspectives you may not have considered before.
I don't expect you to arrive knowing exactly what you want to talk about, or even where to begin.
Some days we might have a lot to explore. Other days, we might need to slow down and make sense of what's happening right now.
I'm interested in what you're saying, but also in what might be happening underneath it. The patterns you find yourself repeating. The feelings that are hard to explain. The ways you've learned to protect yourself, even when those same patterns have started making life harder.
I don't think you need another place where you're trying to say the right thing, manage someone else's expectations, or become a better version of yourself.
You get to be a person here.
We can begin with a conversation.
If something here resonates with you, I'd be glad to connect.
I offer complimentary 15-minute consultations. It's an opportunity to share a little about what brings you to therapy, ask questions, and see whether working together feels like a good fit.
