I'm Karen Bommentre, LMFT, founder of Wild Gem Therapy and a somatic psychotherapist. I specialize in supporting highly sensitive and neurodivergent individuals navigating anxiety, trauma, burnout, identity, and nervous system overwhelm. I have over a decade of clinical experience working with children, adolescents, and adults, and I am currently completing a PhD in Psychology with a specialization in Somatic Psychology. My approach is informed by academic training, ongoing professional development, lived experience, and a deeply rooted personal practice.
Being human can be incredibly challenging. I specialize in supporting sensitive and deeply feeling individuals who often feel overwhelmed by life. Therapy can be a meaningful space to better understand yourself, navigate difficult experiences, and untangle patterns that keep you feeling stuck.
My Approach
As a neurodivergent-affirming therapist, my work is informed by a sincere respect for sensitivity as a meaningful way of moving through the world. I believe qualities such as empathy, depth, and emotional awareness are not weaknesses to overcome, but strengths that often benefit from understanding and support.
Many of the clients I work with have spent years adapting themselves to environments that were not designed for how they naturally experience the world. They may feel exhausted from overthinking, over-functioning, masking, self-monitoring, or trying to force themselves into systems that leave their nervous systems depleted.
I support clients in developing a greater understanding of themselves while building lives that feel more sustainable and authentic with who they are.
What Informs My Work
Outside of clinical work, I'm continually learning about neuroscience, sensory sensitivity, and the many ways people heal, grow, and come to understand themselves. Like many of my clients, I know what it means to navigate uncertainty, growth, and change, and I have immense respect for the courage it takes to engage in that process. My work integrates current research with a genuine respect for lived experience.
Working Together
My goal is for sessions to feel grounding and clarifying. I am a thoughtful listener and practice respectful curiosity.
Whether you are navigating anxiety, trauma, relationship challenges, life transitions, neurodivergence, parenting stress, or everyday overwhelm, my goal is to help you cultivate self-understanding and experience more ease.
